Game Discussion (MKF) / MKF about the web
« Last post by Sum Gai on May 14, 2013, 08:09:27 pm »
All right, I have need of every bit of information about MKF you guys can find, that doesn't come from these forums. Especially reviews and the like. Unless I'm told otherwise, Let's Plays are not an acceptable source.

I'm looking for quotes I can link to, this is a requirement for something I'm working on.

Also, if you can find the same for any of the following games please let me know. : Megaman DL (and DL 2), Distorted Travesty (one, two, or three), Giana's Return, Psycho Walugi, Doom RL, Memories if Mana.

I thought Mr. D was coding this?

I don't recall Mr. Duvall ever trying to code the chocobo.

Never coded anything. :V

Nice to see it's getting life.

Well, I'm glad you took the patience to do the tail feather wag; the Chocobo looks more interesting than if he just stands.

A Couple Notes:

I) Looks like you're using the older sprite sheet. It's updated, so pls check the Chocobo/sprite topic again for new sprites.
The new sprite sheet contains edited expressions, like "Victory" a couple smiling ones in "Idle," and the Chocobo looks straight ahead when he jumps, not "up."

II) When you code Chocobo with the "Walk, Mouth Full" animation, you'd do right by moving every other head animation a couple of the pixels down. (I forgot this on the update). Sprinting with the gob full looks more realistic if the head bobs. (And of course, don't forget the tail feather wag with "Idle, Mouth Full!!)"

Nice job though!

Looking forward to the rest...

Ok, with Abomination gone, will The Castle That Doesn't Make Sense still be in the game and be used as Legion's Castle? I enabled debug mode and went into Twisted Reality just above the starting castle in World 1's first map. I look at the TR map and I see the castle on the first side, which I believe is the Castle of Meat according to the wiki. I then go over to the right side of the map and I find this totally looking awesome castle, which I believe is The Castle That Doesn't Make Sense.

Castle of Meat looks way too much like the castle for Hell Prominence, should we use The Castle That Doesn't Make Sense's graphic be Legion's castle?

This is not a suggestion, but rather a question of what shall we do with that cool castle graphic.
Wait, so what even does the cool castle graphic look like? Well anyway, I hope that the castle sprite makes its way into the final version.

The skins affect the characters and stages. That's pretty cool.

but I'd still like to see "The Lost Levels" added one day.

It is planned to put in the Lost Levels in a future version.

Game Maker Help and Discussion / Re: Why Aren't Variables Detected Sometimes?
« Last post by Bahmo on May 14, 2013, 12:10:34 am »
Your sprite has a default xscale of 1. Changing xscale to -1 will flip it. This works best if the x origin is centered in the middle of the sprite.

Also, using an xscale of any number greater than 1 (or less than -1) will stretch the sprite. The opposite goes for numbers between -1 and 0, and 0 and -1. Those will squish the sprite.

I've tried setting the origin to the center, but still, changing its direction via the xscale causes it to lurch to the right or left.

...And with that said, coming up with game ideas is an awful, awful thing to teach.  The initial idea is quite possibly the least important part of the game development process.

That is actually something completely different in the field of video game design to teach than making games. It's the theory behind game design, and it's a class offered at a community college in my area.
