... what?

You have to INSTALL extensions, not just put them somewhere. To install an extension:

1) Extract the .gex file from the zip archive.
2) In Game Maker, click "Resources" on the menu bar, then "Select Extension Packages".
3) Click the Install button on the window that pops up, which will show you a list of all installed packages on a new window. Click Install there and navigate through your computer's files to the location of the .gex file you extracted.
4) Textbox Extension should be on the list of available packages on the first popup window. Select it and hit the left arrow button that pops up to make it used.
5) Test the SMF:R source.

I think that should do it.

I never installed an extention package for Game Maker before, so I'm had a n00b moment.

Thanks for explaining it.

I'm dealing with another problem, and I had installed the TextBox installer correctly (I know his because the "TextBox 5.1 not found" error I got in the beginning is no longer present), but when I try loading it, I keep getting the dreaded "Unexpected Error Occured" message.

To put this in context, the MKF work file that I haven't touched in a few months is almost 10MB larger and contains far more objects and I am able to load that.  And, I still have the most recent SMF demo and can play that just fine.  I've reduced my workfile to levels I would simply use as reference, and I still get the blasted message.  And, for the record, I moved the entire folder you can download to my hard drive without changing the folder itself.

I wish there was a small forum here for technical questions or glitches so I don't have to innudate this thread with me not understanding what to do.  But I really want to test my stages and objects.

The only thing I could suggest is downloading the source again and trying to run that copy, because I wouldn't know how to fix that error.

AN UNEXPECTED ERROR HAS OCCURED. Most helpful error message ever.

@JDog

If I may ask, what are the specs of your current computer?

I actually do know a lot about purchasing computers.  The truth is that I didn't even spend one dime to obtain this PC; I got it as a result of spending some volunteer time refurbishing units and doing maintenance, and I am planning on buying another PC in a few months that is in that price range you have discussed.

So, by that, I avoid one facepalm out of you.

That's good to hear. I split off the computer purchasing discussion since it was off topic. However, I do advise you look in places like Best Buy or other fairly big electronics shops for budget computers.

Hopefully redownloading the source fixed your problems.

Thanks for doing that.

Personally, I salivate at stuff at Electronic Fry's, with PCs possessing 32GB RAM, NVIDIA Graphics Cards, and a 1.5 terrabyte HDD.  But looking at Best Buy on budget computers is something that fits more of my price range.

I downloaded it again.  Hopefully it came out right again.

EDIT: It works now.  But I'm not gonna make a WIP thread.

At the risk of extending this tread to a full blown bug query, I'm experincing very similar problems to JDog.

Gamer Maker 8.1 Standard gives me a few problems with installing Text Box v5.1.gex. Sadly, not even Capn's good advice--

--seemed to get this issue afloat. I'm just repeatedly flanked with this message: "An error occured while installing the extension package."

Any other clues?

In a related topic, the MKFR source refuses to boot.

It did the first time, and it ran smoothly all the way through that spiffy tutorial level, then it decided it wanted to be left all alone.

Now it just leaves this me with this silly error message:

Quote
___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Other Event: User Defined 0
for object obj_titlescreen:

Data structure with index does not exist.

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Create Event
for object obj_levelpanel:

Data structure with index does not exist.

I imagine this is something to do with the save system, but I can't even imagine how to go about rectifying that...

Any ideas at all?

I've some stages and maps in the pipeline, but before I even think about suggesting a public contribution, I imagine it's sensible to playtest these the levels for a bit.

Don't you?

Do you have any advice on these solving pesky issues?

Thanks! Your input is very well appreciated!!

All I can suggest is opening 8.1 Standard again and retrying the installation. Otherwise, you'd have to look for 8.0 Pro to run the source (which is not exactly legal, but I doubt YYG would really care since you apparently bought 8.1).

Of course, you don't HAVE to have the textbox extension to make levels... but you need it if you're going to test anything.

Aye, Cap'n.

'tis true what ye say...

Anyhoo, I've dealt with the situation, so I'm all up n' running, n' shining, and gunnin' again.

Currently I'm also error-free, which is all good.  :)

Cheers, buddy.

A new version of the S.A.U.C.E. has been uploaded, which contains everything from 0.4, a tweak or two, and 6-SHIP.

Excuse the double post...

Err... did obj_Mario and a couple other key objects change in the source?

Reason I'm asking: when I import objects from my old source file to the new source, the coding misses the obj_mario infomation and obj_solidtop codes. So the new objects are incomplete.

I really don't want to recode everything one by one. Is there anyway I can import these resources without them erasing??

I wouldn't know why that happens. You just might have to put up with it.
