Kirby Dreamland Terror
« on: May 23, 2012, 09:32:52 am »
Hello everyone, I'm new here. I guess I'll start by posting my WIP.

STORY:
A bright light appears over Dreamland and something falls from the sky. Was it a meteor, a ship? Our hero Kirby was resting on the beach, when suddenly the object falls onto his head, waking him up.  When Kirby picked up the strange blue-glowing sphere, he turned and sees  King DeDeDe walking into the distant, and sees that Kirby has found something. He quickly runs over and snatches the sphere from Kirby.
As the King begins studying it, the sphere starts glowing wildly and floats into the air. It then turns black, and in an instant, a dark figure forms in front of them. The figure focuses in on King DeDeDe and snatches the King. DeDeDe screams wildly and demands Kirby to save him. When Kirby tried to use his inhale ability to get the King back, the figure unleashed a dark void towards Kirby. Just then, Meta Knight
appeared and pushed Kirby out of the way. Then, the dark figure vanished, taking the King with it. "So it returns" says Meta Knight, and starts walking away. "It's only a matter of time before darkness falls onto Dreamland once more." Looking puzzled, Kirby knew that whatever happened wasn't good. He sets off on a journey to unlock answers as to what just appeared, and why did it take King DeDeDe away.

Well, I must say I'm intrigued by the idea of a Kirby fangame . . . and judging by those test videos, you have all of the basics up and running.  I'm pretty sure there was a Game Maker-based Kirby fangame in the works on the old forum, but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time, so I think it got cancelled or something.  I look forward to this one, though.
In terms of questions, how will the abilities work in this game?  Will they be single-move abilities (like Kirby's Adventure and the Shimomura games), advanced moveset abilities (like Kirby Super Star and even more so Kirby's Return to Dream Land), or some of both (like Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Kirby Squeak Squad)?  Based on that video, Beam only has the basic whip move, but I thought it might be incomplete.

Nice coding.I remember the times where I recorded videos to rip sprites or try understanding some Kirby's moves. If you need some advice to from a previous Kirby coder, fell free to ask.The main problem with a kirby fangame is trying mimic the little details of his animation and interaction with enemies and objects. It burned my brain for a couple times and maybe took out my interested ( plus the master degree time).I still have the KRPG folder haunting me every time that I check my D driver  :(.

my hint is doing the basic game format and after that do ambitious things like new gamepaly elements, bosses, worlds,if you want.Trying in a too much ambitious way can kill the project.

A Kirby Fangame, huh? Looks great^^
Check your PMs MalcomX: I'm really interested^^

By the way, is that a new enemy? I mean, do intend to add a personal final boss for this Kirby or make an ancient evil character make a comeback?

that seems like a pretty good looking engine so far O.O I rarely see kirby fan games floating around that are of decent Quality, so its nice to see this :>
My characters have no relation to Veggie Tales... just because some of them lack limbs does not mean they are related, inspired by, or knockoffs of Veggie Tales.

what? what shameless plug? I don't see a shameless plug!

I agree. It really seems great: in fact, that's the second Kirby engine that looks really good to me.
