MKF General Discussion Posting Guidelines

1.) READ THE FAQ BEFORE POSTING. If you have a question about MKF in general, chances are it is answered in the FAQ.

2.) DO NOT POST SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW CHARACTERS. MKF already has so many characters planned, plus a whole lot more that are unfinished.

3.) DO NOT POST SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW ENEMIES. As of July 2010, the MKF Dev team is focused on getting the game done, not adding any more unnecessary extra enemies.

4.) DO NOT POST SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW GAME FEATURES. THIS INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: POWER-UPS, SUITS, LEVELS, AND GAME MODES. As noted above, the team is focused on getting the game done.

5.) DO NOT POST BUG REPORTS HERE. The MKF Bug Tracker is the place to do so.

6.)DO NOT ASK ABOUT RELEASE DATES FOR THE NEXT VERSION. We do not give out release dates. Why? If we announce a date and we miss it, people will get disappointed. New versions will be released as they get done.

Any post that contains any of these things will be binned on sight.

Wart's Nightmare makes me MAD
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:56:22 pm »
Today I was playing the secret level "Wart's Nightmare" with Luigi and thought it can't be that bad but I even had problems with the first room of the castle :S The enemies move so fast and there are also so many of them, and some of them even respawn! For me the best tactic was to simply run through all the enemies until I reach the chain that leads to the next room without caring about getting hit (for the first room). Everytime I tried doing it slowly I was getting hit by anything, sometimes those fire-spitting plants, sometimes the Snifits, sometimes the purple star things (no idea how they're called) because they run and jump around by the speed of light, or sometimes by the explosions when killing them. I think I died like 100 times in this, most times in the first 3 rooms because the enemies are just so damn annoying.

I have no idea if I had such a hard time with this level because I took Luigi (I think with Mario's Halo powerup it would have been a lot easier) or if I just suck too much but in my opinion the monsters are too hyped up and too numerous at some places. But I have to say, at first I thought there would be something like an infested Wart in the end but after that room with the red key it was over, and that actually surprised me a bit. Or will there be a boss in future versions?

Anyways, I'm never gonna play this level again...

lol, this level was created for those people who like really tough challenges and are really good at the game (though some characters are better than others), the rest will get frustrated

by the way, it was harder before, this is the original incarnation, everything was twice as fast and tough and numerous

my advice? go as slow and careful as you can, take out the enemies one by one, the best way to do it is grab them carefully

They're called Ninjis.  And yes, the level is very hard.  It's supposed to come very late in the game, after all.
By the way, I recommend playing a character with a Sci-Fi Suit and abusing the hell out of it.  As soon as you get hit, back up and wait until the flashing stops.  It won't always work, but it helps.

You mean... like every other level designed by Del so far ..? :P

Because yeah, they're not impossible, just a bit frustrating for those with less experience with platformers.
The only solution is taking your time and being persistent...

Or... you could try thinking like the Flood... until you're able to predict their every move... >_>

(Or avoid listening to any of my stupid advice and just beat the damn level. :3 )

Simon's also a good choice, with the Fire Whip. His long range and his high damage are rather frightening to watch in action. Also, his subweapons (namely the Cross and Holy Water) are great at taking stuff down.

I guess I overreacted a bit, it really isn't THAT hard :P I just didn't do it the right way.

the best way to do it is grab them carefully

that isn't so easy with Luigi because of his low traction, it always takes him so long to turn around if you jumped too far or anything :S

Ended up using Simon to clear it the first time... only died about eh... 4, 5, 6? times... definitely lots of ways to get caught up in fire and/or explosions and die quickly in that level but the combination of simons double jumps, multi-directional fire-whip, sci-fi shield, and ranged sub-items ('specially the axe) made the level extremely manageable.

Usually Luigi just seems an invitation for frustration. After playing difficult games for many years, we have learned to sometimes compromise with certain sections of games and use different techniques that we would not other wise have chosen... it just saves a lot of unnecessary pain. For example, in Ninja Gaiden Black, learned to just use all the potions and other items... didn't like doing that (don't like using healing items in general) but doing so made the game much more manageable and saved some of our past imaginary selfs from unnecessary deaths. Anyways, why not use a different character for your first clear... in this case you can go back and use luigi later after you have learned the lay out of the level and the location of enemies. : )

*He can jump high but his lack of traction makes things especially difficult

Luigi's really good for platforming-oriented levels, but not so much for battle-heavy levels.  Wart's Nightmare definitely falls into the latter category.

I guess everyone generally agrees that Wart's Nightmare is exactly that--a bloody nightmare.

I still haven't been able to finish this one. I'll give it another go in a bit.

Overall though, I really like the games challenging levels.

I've invented new swear words, but i'm still having fun.

It's all good.
