So, while Magne's doing his stuff on Mega Highway, I started doing this stuff:

So, you're just walking along, minding your own business, when suddenly, A TEMPLE POPS OUT!

It probably was dropped here due to transdimensional shenanigans of one kind or another. You can't really go around it or anything, though, since you're apparently on a 2D plane, so in ya go!

Say hello to world 2-F1, Forest Temple! It's got all your favourite forest elements: Pots and grasses. And umm... Yeah.

So, here's a locked door.

And here's a hole.

And here's what appears to be Bubble Lead.

HMM... WHAT TO DO.

Maybe, just maybe...

SNAKE EEEEYES

So, now you're free to shenanigan all over the place as much as you'd like.

Doin' stuff like opening boxes...

And blowin' stuff up.

In general, the level is a nonlinear key hunt, kinda like Zebes, except not as terrifying.
Super special awesome thanks go to Magne, yet again, for being so nice as to code the balls in holes system. That man really is way too generous when it comes to codes.
He's a good coderitan.

I seem to recall hearing this level mentioned here and there for a while, so I'm glad to see some concrete progress on it now.  And on top of that, said progress looks good.

looks good so far, dunno why did you use the bubble lead's sprite lol, but whatevs :p

once you're done you should send me or aura your source so we can maybe put some of the newer enemies in there, and maybe make a boss; I think the green dragon one Evilmariobot sprited for Fire Temple would fit much better in here, this is the first Zelda level in MKF, and that boss was the first temple's boss in a few Zelda games too, dunno

Yeah, my plan for the stage was to be not just Forest Temple-based, but also have some elements of the first Zelda dungeon, so the greenie dragster should be awwwwww rite.
If that doesn't work out, though, you could have, like... Mantis Ant? Then again, maybe not.

Yeah, once I'm done, I'll throw it in your general direction. Gotta have those wizards.

Will there be Poe Sisters to hunt? I'd love to sprite them. :)

oh yeah, I think Lars suggested using regular Poes in here too, they have 16-bits sprites from AlttP though

what did they do in there anyway? I don't remember, would they just fly around chasing you?

Poe sisters would be a bit too complicated, I think.
In Link to the Past, if you moved a grave, a Poe might pop out and start floating around in all around the place. I'm not really sure if there's any way to put the graves into the level in a non-weird way, though. Maybe just as regular enemies?

maybe make them appear if you destroy certain pots? and when you move the bubble "blocks", kind of like Phanto from SMB2 when you took the keys

perhaps you can replace the bubble lead sprite with a small gravestone sprite (there are some 16x16 pixels ones in AlttP and the GB games, even the NES one) and make it the one you have to carry and put in the gaps

Hmm, I think that having ghosts chase you when you pick up balls would be kind of a pain in practice. The level design past here is pretty cramped, and some characters would be completely defenseless. Having ghosts pop out of pots sounds like a pretty good idea, though. Only problem is actually making that happen. I don't think there's any pot object that allows for deciding what's in it through creation code. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If the level design is "cramped", then just remove a couple of the enemies you put around the bubbles? not that hard to right click them in the room editor to send them into oblivion lol.

Not to mention you're all but defenseless when you take them, you can still stomp or use the block itself as a weapon tossing it. And the Poes wouldn't appear on your face immediately, you could have time to drop it and shoot them or whatever.

And editing pots to spawn Poes would be easy as pie, just give them a new variable like "poe = true" in their individual creation code (the ones you put in the room), and then edit obj_pot or whatever, add a "destroy" event and put "if poe = true, create poe etc.". For the blocks/gravestones, I guess Magne could do a simple detector to add to his system.

The crampedness is less "lots of enemies" and more "you have little room to faff around in." That, and since the blocks are gonna be used for puzzling would make Poes popping out every time you pick one up more annoying than fun, I think.
Making Poes pop out of pots would be pretty doable and neat, though. I'm gonna go ahead and get working on that.
It's gonna be EDGARTASTIC. Because, you see... Edgar... Edgar Allan Poe. Tee hee?

Why not make poes just regular enemies? Just have them invisible except for the lantern, and they only become visible (and damageable) for a moment after attacking. Having an occasional one inside a pot might also work.
Not gravestones, though. If anything should be coming out of gravestones, it should be ghinis, not poes.

Also, feel free to add in some of those LoZ spike traps I made for Crossroads. Everyone always forgets those things exist.

I think peahats would work well in Forest Temple, as would skulltulas, Pol's voices, and possibly chuchus.
I dunno if the whole dropping orbs into holes thing really fits. I probably would have gone with something involving lighting torches instead. Or at least had OoT-style switches that had to be held down or something.

Go forth, and read from the Book of Gord. Bask in the wisdom and glory that is The Gord.

Poes would work exactly like that, I think. You see them chilling around, but they also pop out of pots. You'll never know when the ghostéd menace will pop(poe?) out. Thanks for reminding me about the spike traps. It's kinda weird that they haven't really been used that much. Just have to figure out where would be a good place for 'em.
Skulltulas can be made with simply reskinning those blue climby things from SMB2. I was going to do that anyway, so that takes care of that. Pols Voices can pretty much be replaced with Rabites, right? That way, we can save on coding.
One thing I'm trying to be careful with is not making the stage too overwhelming. It IS only World 2's first fort, after all.

Hold on a minute, if it is a fort, does that mean there will be an encounter with Phantom Ganon? O_o

They already mentioned using Aquamentus as the boss. Incidentally, I'm going to try spriting Volvagia, I think he would work best for Fire Temple.
