XFR General Discussion Posting Guidelines

BEFORE POSTING, READ THESE GUIDELINES:

1.) DO NOT POST SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW FIGHTERS. Adding new fighters to an already huge roster (over 30 as of July 15, 2011) is of the absolute lowest priority.

2.) NO NEW STAGE SUGGESTIONS. All stages to be made for XFR have been decided.

3.) There is no native gamepad/joystick support. To play XFR with your gamepad/joystick, you must run a joystick-to-keyboard emulator and configure it accordingly. Please do not make any posts about the lack of native gamepad support. This is the most effective workaround to this issue.

Any post that contains any of these things will be binned on sight.

Then again, there's nothing keeping anyone from making the most epic cheese ship ever...
You, uh... you sure about that? Remember what happened last time.

Well, damn. You got rid of my two favorite ships Hikaru and Michelle H. But oh, well. I'll play the game anyway with what's available and still enjoy it just as much. I consider the game to be a great casual stress reliever and will continue playing it.

@Cook:

If someone else wants to make such a system to allow for external objects, then it is possible. I will not handle such a system myself as I see it as being completely unnecessary to XFR as a whole.

Seems that Obreck will do something so that some of the old roster is preserved.

Well before any crazy speculations arise, yes me and Judgespear have met up, discussed these changes and why they were needed. All is understood, overzealous behavior has been shed, and XF will benefit in the end.

In the end I decided, and Judgespear agreed, that just releasing his current vision of XF + a "special edition" with all the scrapped ships just slapped on would send the wrong message about the intentions of those who contributed to it, and would just undermine the whole point of why Judgespear made those cuts in the first place.

However the roster will be expanded to at least 3 more ships: Michelle Heart, E-75, and Galaga will be restored. These ships are pretty much good to go, well balanced, and leave 1 leftover slot in reserve for other plans. Other than that the roster is final: Judgespear will be focusing on finishing the stages and such from this point on.

Damn, my ship still didn't make it.
I enjoy putting myself in exotic and awesome environments, then I make people play fan generated games they never knew existed.

I'm kind of glad that Galaga made it back in, since that's a classic series.

Here's a beta screen shot of what will be the game's final roster. The only thing left to fill is that final blank slot, which was decided to be left open as a wild card for several possible choices for now:

At least we get some nice ships to stay. Not sure who would fit for that last part though.

I wouldn't call the E-75 'well balanced' myself, but that's a good compromise.

As for the last slot, how about not having a ship at all but adding a random ship selection option (when the final 1.0 release is in and all lock/unlock functions for unlockables are implemented)? It'd make sense considering the Raiden Fighters games had it and there's enough ships there that a Random option is justifiable, the only issue (as JudgeSpear has discussed with me once before) would be for it to filter out ships that haven't been unlocked yet in terms of what sprite to display upon overlay and what ship to pick. I've got a fair idea about how I'd go about implementing it but alas I'm not the developer and it probably would not be consistent with the developer's style of code.

I know there was talk of the Sky Pop before . . . would that still be appropriate?

Sorry, we are currently not taking requests for the final slot.

It's no mere request at this point. I know there's been spritework done for it; in fact, i think it was completed already. The only thing that was preventing it from being coded was deciding on what weapons it would use. But between the switch to the new forums and the roster cut, I guess the people working on it forgot about it.

He'll pick whatever ship he'll pick. That, and there's plenty of discarded, fully complete ships he can choose from.

Don't press him.
