I'm trying not to look at the second and third games until I beat the first, but I will say that I feel the first game would have been helped significantly by having a sprite artist.  That probably sounds hypocritical coming from me, but I'm not a fan of the clashing art in MKF either.  I let it go out of necessity.

Welcome!

Heh, I just now got to the Secured Data Segment level of World 3.  I hope to get past the first room of that level eventually. :P

I love your games.  It's obvious that you put a lot of effort into making them, and it shows.  They're challenging enough to make me want to tear my hair out, yet, at the same time, they are genuinely fun to play through.  Keep up the good work!

(Slight sidenote: I love how the Game Over screens in the first one insult you, yet the ones in the second encourage you.  For some reason, I can't help but feel more insulted by the overly encouraging lines in the second game than the deadpan ones in the first.  :B)

Downloading the first game now. I'll give some feedback later.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and I'll try to stay away from the reactor itself. I wouldn't want any accidents to occur.

That probably sounds hypocritical coming from me, but I'm not a fan of the clashing art in MKF either.  I let it go out of necessity.
No worries, I'm actually against sprite rips for the most part, and you've seen the game. I do this for fun, as I'm sure you do the same with MKF.
For clashing art, it only seems to bug me with 3D.

(Slight sidenote: I love how the Game Over screens in the first one insult you, yet the ones in the second encourage you.  For some reason, I can't help but feel more insulted by the overly encouraging lines in the second game than the deadpan ones in the first.  :B)
I wasn't sure how the encouragement would be taken, but your reaction has been the typical response from people.

Oh, sorry about that dsc. :S As for leaving it in... I don't remember why it was left in, but it also acts as a cheat menu as it would allow you to have invincibility, ability to warp anywhere, (Provided you knew the mapIDs) and a few other various things. And it's highly illogical that anyone could stumble upon how to unlock it.

You don't need to worry; only people with red names can cause a meltdown access the core reactor.

I haven't actually played these games yet (though I probably should if I ever work through my backlog), but I think it's kind of cool that someone started a topic about them here, and the creator actually showed up.

Well, I will make a complete Let's Play of this game once I am finished with Donkey Kong Country 2.
The thing is, noone has ever uploaded a full LP of this game. One guy made a walkthrough but ended with Necrobane. Then there are two German LPers but they did end their LP even far more soon.
It is a shame since this game is actually REALLY good. I would go as far as to state that it is at least as good as MKF if not to some extent better.

Anyways, my LP would be done on normal difficulty, it will be done from start to finish and unfortunately for you it will be in German, since it will be recorded and uploaded on my bud's and my German LP channel, called DieHammerbrueder. I still hope that some of you will watch said LP since you are going to see gameplay of this game (plus funny rage once I will get to the really hard stages and bosses).

Once I start with the LP I will let you know (since it might be in the interest of the game creator as well). I know it might be advertisement for my channel, but I rather regard this as positive advertisment for the game. ;) But first things first: I am going to finish DKC 2 which might take a few weeks since each of us (Steve and I) are playing their very own projects and thus a new video of my current LP project is uploaded every two days.

I must say I really look forward to this LP since I like this game a lot. :)

Aside from some graphical things that should be polished a tad, it's pretty good.

But I must ask, why do you have OGGs that sound like MIDIs? If you're going to use MIDI instruments, you should use a .mid file, not a larger .ogg file.

I use the supersound extension because I don't like Game Maker's way of handling sound at all. Supersound only works with wav and ogg files. Originally I had a few midis being used in the game before I implemented the extension. They were converted to ogg for supersound to use. I know it's bad, but I couldn't find any other way to do it. My answer for the other games was simply to avoid midis. (Though DT3 does make one occurrence of it.)

I'd be happy replacing most of them with a non midi version if I (or anyone else) found something similar to the original though. I haven't been looking for things like music replacement for the first game since the third is my big focus. The only time DT1 and 2 are updated now, is if major bugs are discovered.

So I just entered Black Rock Fortress. And I have to say: WTF???  :O The difficulty just increased insanely. I think the most annoying element in this stage and the main reason why I have so much trouble are these crystals. It is very hard to time your air dashes and Mental Insurrection. As if this is not enough you are forced to pass certain obstacles while dashing over these crystals. It is HIGHLY annoying and I really hope that these things will not return that much in later stages.
It is still fun though!

Sry for the double post but somewhat the modify message function didnt work. :(

So I have a bug or an error in the game. Whenever I press P for the menu in the Veiled Detritus the following message appears:

ERROR in
action number 7
of Draw Event
for object oHUD:

Error in code at line 319:
         draw_text(subMenuWarnX+60,subMenuWarnY+9,shroudWarning)
                                                  ^
at position 49: Unknown variable shroudWarning

Anything I can do about it? I do not want to play all of it again (at least until I finished the game properly)!

hehe, I remember those crystals. Hated the things.

Except it hadn't occured to me to use mental insurrection when I hit them. I use regular attacks...

To Slit_Zurifa:
That's a hard one to stumble upon, but I see how it happened. I'll release a fix sometime maybe tomorrow.
For now, just don't open the menu until the Shrouds show up again, that will fix the issue. They should show up pretty quick given what would cause that bug to occur. (Or leave the Veiled Detritus to the map and come back in.)

Edit: A fix to the above issue has been made. The blog links have been updated.
